Michelle joined the firm in 2010 and has represented unions, their members, and individual employees in various labour, employment, and human rights matters. She has appeared before numerous boards and tribunals and all levels of court in Alberta. Michelle has presented at conferences and seminars on a wide variety of labour-related topics including workplace privacy, family status discrimination, random drug and alcohol testing, and the duty of fair representation.
Prior to joining Chivers Carpenter, Michelle worked as a researcher for the Alberta Federation of Labour and Victory Square Law Office, a union-side labour law firm in Vancouver. Michelle graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta. During law school, Michelle received numerous awards including the Labour Relations Book Prize and the Alberta Law Foundation Award.
Since 2017, Michelle has focused her practice on legal research and writing. She prepares legal opinions and briefs on various issues and her written advocacy has been submitted to arbitration boards, the Labour Relations Board, the Alberta Court of King’s Bench, and the Alberta Court of Appeal.
