Human Rights Law

The Alberta Human Rights Act protects employees from discrimination based on prohibited grounds, including race, religious beliefs, colour, gender, gender identity, gender expression, physical disability, mental disability, age, ancestry, place of origin, marital status, source of income, family status, and sexual orientation.

Workplace Discrimination Can Take Many Forms

Workplace discrimination can include hiring and promotion decisions, termination, discriminatory policies or pay practices, or harassment linked to a protected ground. An employer’s failure to provide reasonable accommodation to employees with disabilities or those with religious or family obligations may also constitute discrimination, unless the accommodation causes undue hardship.

Our human rights lawyers have specialized experience representing employees who have faced workplace discrimination before the Alberta Human Rights Commission and Tribunal and the Canada Human Rights Commission and Tribunal.
