Madam Justice Sheila Greckol was one of the founding members of Chivers Carpenter and fiercely advocated for her clients before being appointed to the Alberta Court of King’s Bench in 2001 and then the Alberta Court of Appeal in 2016.
Shiela spent 25 years as a leading labour and human rights lawyer. In addition to leading cases involving freedom of choice and paid maternity leave, she acted as co-counsel in the landmark decision of Vriend v Alberta in 1998, the first successful gay rights matter adjudicated by the Supreme Court of Canada.
In November 2024, Women in Law Leadership presented Sheila with the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of Sheila’s many contributions to the legal community prior to her retirement in 2022.
