Gwen practiced labour law first in Regina, Saskatchewan. She joined Chivers Greckol & Kanee in 1992 but left in 1994 to work for the Policy and Planning Branch of the Department of Labour in Regina. She served as Vice-Chair and Chair of the Saskatchewan Labour Relation Board from 1995 until 2003 when she was enticed to return to Chivers Carpenter. It seems much of her time at Chivers Carpenter was consumed with litigation concerning strikes – A-Channel, Suncor, Gateway Casino and Lakeside Meat Packing. She retired from private practice in 2012.
She was appointed Vice-Chair and Essential Services Commissioner of the Alberta Labour Relations Board in 2016, retiring for the second time in 2019.
She recalls with great fondness the camaraderie of the Chivers Carpenter team. It was a great place to work!
